Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Hey guys!! It’s been a while,,,I just sorta forgot about my blog for a bit? I’ve had an internship for the past three weeks in a lab for stem cell research, and it has been super cool!! But I’ve been working around 9 hours a day and just forgot all about my blog. But I’m back again, and I know it’s a bit past mid-year, but will that stop me from doing this tag? No! I haven’t read as much as I would have liked to, but let’s roll with it!

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019?

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl

If you’ve read my review on this book, you know it blew my freaking mind. I have never read anything with this level of manipulation, cruelty, and darkness, and I loved the book so much that I’ll be writing a 4000 word essay on it for my school work as well!

2. BEST SEQUEL OF 2019 SO FAR?

The Wicked King by Holly Black

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

Um yes?? Another amazing book by the qUEEN. I haven’t reviewed this book yet, something which I do need to get to, but safe to say that the book lived up to it’s BEAUTIFUL cover.

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO?

The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston

The Princess and the Fangirl (Once Upon a Con, #2)

When I read Geekerella last year, I’d really enjoyed the sweet, disney-like romance, so I’m super excited to see what Ashley Poston does with this book! The cover is also super cute, and I love the animated-ness to it!

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2019?

Permanent Record by Mary H.K Choi and The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

Permanent Record  The Testaments

So I discovered Mary H.K Choi this year, and um what an amazing author omg. Emergency Contact has so far been one of my favourite books this year, and I’m super excited to read Permanent Record. LOOK AT THE COVER. LOOK AT THEIR EYELASHES I LOVE.

I read The Handmaids’s Tale yesterday, and ohmygod I am disturbed, I am frightened, but I LOVED it, and I am READY for a sequel.

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT?

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Heart of Darkness

Okay I don’t know if I was just too dumb to understand this book, because I read each page like 4 times, and all I have been able to glean about this book is there was a ship. So idk about y’all, but this book has been the biggest letdown of my life considering that I spent two weeks reading a 180 page book.

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE?

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

Rebecca

I LOVED. I’m not the biggest fan of classics, but this was an incredible read. The setting, the writing, the mystery, the tension, it was all so well developed- literally amazing. I didn’t think I’d like it much because of the time period it’s set in, but BOY WAS I WRONG.

7. FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU) ?

Mary H.K. Choi

She is an actual queen and I super-stan. Her writing is so modern and so cool and so witty and i adore her.

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH?

Surprisingly none??? I’m in shock??? I’m usually the first to get a fictional crush, but somehow I haven’t had any this year. maybe I just haven’t read enough yet?

9. NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTERS?

Penny and Sam!!! I’m telling you y’all, The Emergency Contact straight up stole my heart, it’s such a cute book.

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

They Both Die at the End

You’d think after reading it 3 times, maybe I wouldn’t cry again? Well you’re wrong, because I cried just as hard and just as much!

11. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY?

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

The Hating Game

Hate to love stories are my guiltiest pleasure, and The Hating Game was such a perfect version of this trope! It was smexy and cute and funny and witty and literally anything I could want from a book! Read my review here!

12. FAVOURITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR?

I’ve only watched the old Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf adaptation of the book, and I only watched it for school. It was good I guess, but I wish I’d watched some other stuff too.

13. FAVOURITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR?

Any guesses? Yep, it’s Emergency Contact again. I promise I’ll stop raving about this book once I read a bit more this year, but until then, you’re gonna keep hearing about this!

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU BOUGHT OR RECEIVED SO FAR THIS YEAR?

The Beauty That Remains by Ashley Woodfolk

The Beauty That Remains

I don’t know about you, but I think this is a gorgeous cover. I haven’t read it yet, but I will soon, and hopefully it’ll live up to how pretty it is!

15.BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed, Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare

The Nowhere Girls  Ghosts of the Shadow Market  The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1)

I’ve been wanting to read Nowhere Girls for a while, as I think it’s gonna be eye opening and life changing for me, considering how close to my heart feminism is.

And as you all know, I need to read and buy anything written by Cassandra Clare, so these books are on my “buy list”!

And that’s it for today! I’m sorry for being so absent, and I’ll definitely be back with quality content very soon, so keep your eyes open!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What has your reading year been like so far? Tell me in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!
